Below: Miguel Cabrera, a Zapotec from Oaxaca who became the greatest recognized painter of New Spain (and who lived till 1768), picked up on this theme in a series of paintings like this one illustrating the history of Mexico. This is #1 of course, whereby "Spain" and "India" produce a mestizo child.
